We throw trash away every day. But do we know what happens to it? Do your kids know how we deal with our waste? The Garbage Garage of Larimer County in Fort Collins is just the place for a fun learning experience. Whether it is for a field trip, party, or day activity, the Garbage Garage might be your next outing.

What is the Garbage Garage?

There are so many questions about landfills and recycling that we don’t know about. This is just the place to learn about how it all works and what comes out in the end. The Garbage Garage Education Center is part of the Larimer County Landfill and serves by teaching the process of waste management. When you visit, you can experience many things. You can go on tours, learn facts about trash, and explore what we throw away. There are activities and sites that anyone from preschool to senior adults can enjoy and learn from.

What do I need to know?

Hours for the facility are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. The Garbage Garage often hosts tours and field trips during this time, as well as walk-ins. If you are hoping to just come and visit, call ahead to see if a tour or field trip is going on. Also, if your group is four or more people, you must call ahead to make sure your group can be accommodated. If you are planning a field trip or group outing, don’t worry. Tours can have up to 30 people when scheduled. If your group is larger than 30, it will need to be split up into multiple tours.

If you are really excited about learning about our waste, you could also schedule a birthday party or participate in a workshop or special event. Be sure to check the events calendar and plan in advance if this is something you want to do.
